There is no holiday on April 9 (Tuesday) before Eid-ul-Fitr. The Cabinet Committee on Law and Order recommended a holiday on April 9 before Eid, but the Cabinet rejected it.

The Cabinet meeting was held at the Prime Minister’s Office on Monday (April 1) morning. It was presided over by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Liberation War Affairs Minister and Chairman of the Cabinet Committee on Law and Order AKM Mozammel Haque confirmed the absence of a holiday on April 9.

He said, “The Cabinet has not approved the recommendations of the Cabinet Committee on Law and Order. The Cabinet has said that many days of leave are already available. Meanwhile, if April 9 is given as a holiday, the holiday will be longer. This can cause stagnation in work. However, those who are going away for Eid can take leave if they want. They have that right.’

Now from April 10 to 14, government officials are getting five consecutive days off.

Eid-ul-Fitr, the biggest religious festival of Muslims, will be celebrated in the country on April 10 or 11, depending on the sighting of the moon. However, the government has fixed Eid holidays on April 10, 11 and 12 (Wednesday, Thursday and Friday) as Ramadan is 30 days and Eid-ul-Fitr is on April 11. After that, government employees are getting weekly holiday on April 13 (Saturday) and New Year holiday on April 14 (Sunday).

But before Eid there is a holiday of Shab Qadr on 7th April (Sunday). Office open on 8th and 9th April (Monday and Tuesday) after Shab Qadr holiday. If Eid falls on April 11, only one day (April 10) will be available to go home, so the Cabinet Committee on Law and Order has recommended a holiday on April 9 to ensure smooth Eid travel. The cabinet committee made this recommendation in the first meeting at the secretariat on Sunday (March 31). At the end of the meeting, Minister of Liberation War Affairs and Chairman of the Committee AKM Mozammel Haque gave this information to the journalists.
