The ‘controversial’ Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) was implemented in India ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. The central government of the country officially announced the launch of the CAA through a notification. As a result, this CAA was launched four years after the bill was passed in Parliament. Although it became a law, the sections and sub-sections of the CAA have not been added for almost four and a half years. As a result, this law has not been implemented in practice. As per the rules, certain clauses and sub-sections of the Act have to be added within six months of the President signing it. Otherwise special permission has to be sought from specific committees of Lok Sabha or Rajya Sabha. In this case, the Union Ministry of Home Affairs had been applying to extend the deadline for implementing the law from 2020. Months ago, Amit Shah said that CAA is important for India. Surely this law will be brought. It will also come into effect before the Lok Sabha polls. Although Narendra Modi did not speak loudly about CAA during his visit to West Bengal. In 2019, the Modi government passed the CAA in the Parliament after coming to power for the second time. Under this law, the country will only grant citizenship to non-Muslims who left Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh before December 31, 2014. Earlier, several public interest cases challenging the Citizenship Amendment Act or CAA (2019) have been filed in different courts of India. On December 18, 2019, the first hearing of the petition against the CAA began in the apex court. After the Citizenship Amendment Bill was passed in Parliament on December 11 of that year, protests started across the country. After that, however, the bill became law on 1 January  2020.
