Staff Reporter : He made these remarks as the chief guest at the ‘Donation to the Martyrs’ Family and Remembrance’ program organized on the occasion of the second anniversary of the July-August Uprising at the Zahur Hossain Chowdhury Hall of the National Press Club in the capital on Thursday (August 6). The program was organized by the Shaheed July Smriti Sangsad.
State Minister for Liberation War Affairs Ishraq Hossain said that if the comments made by the martyrs’ family members about the NCP are published, the party’s politics will not survive. At the same time, he alleged that there are also questions about the management of the July Fund and the funds for the martyrs’ graves, which can be brought to light through an impartial audit.
Ishraq Hossain said that those who were in power during the interim government have now lost power and become unstable. He claimed that a group is trying to take political advantage of the July movement.
He said that so far, more than 14,000 July fighters have been gazetted. However, many July fighters associated with BNP politics during the interim government have not been gazetted, which he called a ‘big injustice’.
Highlighting the various initiatives of the government for the welfare of the martyrs and the injured, the State Minister said that accommodation arrangements will be made for the families of the martyrs and, in addition to treatment of the injured, allowances ranging from Tk 5,000 to Tk 20,000 per month are being given according to their condition. He said that rehabilitation and employment initiatives will also be taken for the injured who are able to work. He also mentioned that the government is taking a separate plan for the visually impaired.
Regarding the July movement, Ishraq said that it was not a movement of any specific group; rather, it was a mass movement with the participation of people from all walks of life in the country. He alleged that a small group is trying to use the achievements of the July movement politically.
The State Minister also highlighted the incidents of chaos at a state function organized on the occasion of the July Uprising Day on Wednesday (August 5). He said that some individuals have systematically created chaos and tarnished the image of the country and have also damaged the country’s reputation in front of foreign diplomats.
The program was presided over by BNP’s National Executive Committee Volunteer Affairs Secretary Mir Sarfat Ali Sapu. BNP Joint Secretary General Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, MPs Advocate Abdus Salam Azad, Md. Kamruzzaman, Advocate Fahima Nasir and other central and local leaders of the party were present.
