Bribery charges against SI Osman Victims claim they are not getting the desired services even after paying

Hasanur Rahman (43), the uncle-in-law of the shop owner (Asad), alleged that when he first went to Kalihati Police Station to file a case after the incident, the officer-in-charge (OC) of the police station, Qayyum Khan, refused to accept the case. He claimed that the police accepted the case only after the victims announced a human chain.

The victims have alleged that SI Osman Gani, the investigation officer of the case, initially took Tk 4,000 in the name of investigation. However, they alleged that even after taking the money, the accused were not arrested or any effective progress was seen.

Hasanur Rahman claimed that later he wanted to know the progress of the case and SI Osman Ghani asked him to inform him about the location of the accused. Meanwhile, he also alleged that after taking action regarding the case, the accused threatened Hasanur Rahman with death on social media messenger.

Hasanur Rahman claimed that he had applied to file a general diary (GD) online in this incident, but it was rejected. Later, when he contacted SI Osman Gani again about the matter, he took another bribe of Tk 1,000. However, even after taking the money, he allegedly assured the accused that he would file a GD on the spot and advised them not to come to the police station. But when he asked about the progress of the GD a few days later, he alleged that he was asked to come to the police station and file a new GD, he said.

When contacted by media personnel on his cellphone, SI Osman Ghani denied all the allegations against him. He said that he had no involvement in any irregularities or bribery in the incident.

The victims demand that the incident be investigated impartially, appropriate action be taken against the culprits, and justice be ensured for them.
