Fayzul Islam, Savar : SAVAR, Dhaka: The Savar Upazila Committee of the Green Movement was formed at a ceremony held in Savar, where a 41-member committee took an oath to work for environmental protection, cleanliness and increasing greenery in the area.
The oath-taking ceremony began with a welcome speech by Ranu Sultana. Dr. Mohammad Kamruzzaman, President of Savar Citizen Club, inaugurated the programme. In his speech, he said the name “Green Movement” itself creates a sense of freshness and positivity.
“Green means greenery. There can be no better initiative than working to make Savar and the entire country greener by planting trees and creating a clean and healthy environment,” he said.
He added that planting more trees would make the environment greener and more beautiful while creating a positive impact on people’s minds. “I hope all members of the newly formed committee will demonstrate a green mindset and maintain a clean image through their activities,” Dr. Kamruzzaman said.
Md. Salah Uddin Khan Naim, President of Genda Government Primary School, Savar, and General Secretary of the Savar Upazila Corruption Prevention Committee, attended the event as the chief discussant.
In his speech, he emphasized the importance of greenery and environmental cleanliness. “There is no alternative to greenery. Wherever there are trees, greenery and cleanliness, people’s minds will naturally become cleaner and healthier,” he said.
Central President of the Green Movement Bappi Sardar was present at the programme. Among others, Rotarian Mohammad Wakilur Rahman, Senior Vice-President of Savar Citizen Club; Lion Mohammad Alamgir Kabir, Secretary of Savar Citizen Club; and Azmal Amin Tutul were present at the event.
At the beginning of the programme, Ashraful Islam Jony was announced as the President of the newly formed Savar Upazila Committee, while Shafiqul Islam Pintu was named as a member of the committee. A 41-member committee was subsequently announced, and the newly appointed members took the oath of office.
The programme was conducted by Shafiqul Islam Patwari, a former teachers’ leader.
