Md. Shariful Islam, Sakhipur (Tangail) Correspondent: There have been allegations of mold-like black stains and dirt-like substances inside the popular cup noodles for children produced by a well-known large company in the country. The incident took place in Sakhipur Upazila Sadar, Tangail.
The complainant, Yamin Mahmud, is the owner of the mobile phone and accessories business ‘Yamin Mobile’ in the upazila’s market area. He said that he had bought the cup noodles for children from a shop in the upazila sadar a few days ago. When he went home and opened the packet, he saw mold-like substances and black stains inside the noodles.
Yamin Mahmud said, “Children often have to buy noodles to fulfill their wishes. Many times, due to haste, the condition of the food inside is not checked properly. But since there was no special work that day, I was attentive while opening the packet. The product is still valid, but when I opened it, I saw that there were fungi or fungus-like substances and black dirt-like stains inside the noodles.”
He also said, “Noodles are a very favorite food of children. Therefore, such incidents are not only disappointing, but have also raised concerns about the health and food safety of children. Many times, there is now concern about what is being fed to children in a hurry.”
Demanding a proper investigation into the incident, he drew the attention of the relevant manufacturing company, the National Consumer Rights Protection Department and the Bangladesh Food Safety Authority. He demanded that the necessary measures be taken to investigate the matter and effective steps be taken to prevent such incidents from happening in the future.
Yamin Mahmud said, “We want safe food. Before eating packaged food, it is necessary to check not only the expiration date, but also the condition inside the food.”
