National Social Service Day 2024 (January 2 Monday) will be celebrated. This year’s theme of the day is Bangladesh will build the country smart in social service.
After partition in 1947, the slum problem arose in Dhaka. To solve this problem, social welfare programs were started in 1955 on the advice of the United Nations. In view of that, Social Welfare Department was established in 1961. Later due to widening scope of activities, the department was elevated as a permanent nation building department of the government in 1978 and was recognized as Department of Social Services in 1984. On June 4, 2012, the Bangladesh government declared January 2 as Social Service DayFather of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman took far-reaching initiatives including providing constitutional guarantees at the beginning of the country’s reconstruction to transform the helpless, backward people into skilled human resources and to uphold human rights. In 1974, he launched the interest-free micro-credit program and took up the rural mother center development project for women’s empowerment. The Children Act, 1974 was enacted for the protection of childrenAnd his privileged daughter, Honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, to implement 54 philanthropic activities of the social safety net including the welfare and development of the poor, underprivileged children, orphans, disabled, teenagers, unmarried women and elderly people of BangladeshbeingUnder the social security program, the allowance and grant money of 1 crore 8 lakh beneficiaries are being delivered directly to their doorsteps through mobile financial services through G-to-P system. And currently providing training, special allowances and education stipends to improve the quality of life of tea workers, Hijras, Bedes and marginalized communities. Financial assistance is also being provided to cancer, kidney, liver cirrhosis, stroke paralyzed and congenital heart disease patients and even burn victims. Every year, millions of people are receiving medical assistance through social service programs from hospitals. The present government is also working for the rehabilitation of beggars including vagrants and destitute persons. Toll Free Child Helpline 1098 has been launched to ensure child protection and rights. Dr. MM Majed, the prominent researcher and founder of National Patient Welfare Society of Bangladesh, wrote a column on today’s issue. In his column, welfare and good work in the world is a service. Although there are different sectors of service, social service is one of them. Lately I have been in a mental confusion. As many revelations and sermons as I do through newspapers, do the relevant authorities take any good of it into consideration? Social service claims unlimited importance in every aspect of human life. Generally, the service activities undertaken for the welfare of the disadvantaged lower class people of the society are called social services, but according to the modern concept, social services are the sum of all the activities undertaken for the safety and well-being of the people in the society.
Currently, social service is considered as a social security program. According to the United Nations definition, ‘Social service is a set of activities undertaken and organized with the aim of assisting in the adjustment of the individual to his environment.
Apart from this, all activities undertaken and organized for human resource development, conservation and problem prevention are also included in social service. And because of the human environment, in excess of Shadripur, the human name is tarnished, drowned in the sea of corruption, and if human qualities can be awakened, humanity and humaneness are regained, they act and behave like human beings. Apart from the inherent nature of man, through good education and proper training and healthy social system, man can be made into a ‘man like man’. In this way educated society with healthy mentality, ideal state and sustainable nation are built. They can be used for social development. Individual healthy thinking is the source of collective healthy thinking. Collective progress lies in the mental progress of the individual. So with them, the mental improvement of the person should be tried. Collective progress must be accelerated through the progress of the individual.
Do social service. There is much to learn from them. Public service and social service is also an absolute passion. The one who got the fun of it is the one who has fun. In this country there is a pious population educated in madrasa education, they are also a social force, they want liberation in the hereafter. Many of them misunderstand the purpose of life, ignore this life, sometimes knowing that it is futile, they rush to get the freedom of the hereafter. I see that education, work, thinking, social service, public service and creation service of this time is the worship of this time, the liberation of the next. The whole philosophy is based on this creation, action and creation service. They can also join social service, human service and creative service after thinking a little. You can find the salvation of the hereafter in creation service. It is possible to bring every person who believes exclusively in the Creator to the service of creation and the service of humanity.
Many devout Muslims of Tablighi Jamaat volunteered to spread the religion abroad. Many people in the society are following their path by praying-fasting, Hajj-zakat and tasbih-telawat and giving themselves to the path of the hereafter. But most of them continue to ignore the purpose of creation-education, life-livelihood-work, society formation. He has left the Lord’s creations, worldliness, service to creation, life work and profession completely worthless. Over the ages, they have been able to establish good education, justice, fair distribution of wealth for the poor people, service to humanity, economic development, educated society and how much truth has been raised today. I believe, these are also ‘service of religion’ and ‘Haqqul Ibad’ – the path of the hereafter. If we convince them to bring them as a volunteer of ‘Shiksha Seva Samaj’ for economic development, social education, calling people to righteous deeds, helping the distressed and serving poverty-humanity, the society will undoubtedly benefit, at the same time they will get their liberation in the afterlife.
At one time the leftist trend of politics greatly influenced a section of the population of this country. The purpose is to do social service; To work for the economic emancipation of deprived, oppressed, toiling people. Self-sacrificing and victims played a role in this for the emancipation of the masses and the formation of an exploitation-free society. Shortly after the War of Independence, ideological differences within the left-wing politics led to infighting. Many influential leaders abandoned party ideals and turned to personal interests. He became the owner of wealth and prosperity in his heart. Party workers continued to disperse. Gradually, the dream of liberation of the hardworking people of leftist politics departed from the countries of Eastern Europe. The last goodbye’s gentle crimson ray touched the thick charm of the western sky of this country and disappeared again. Millions of people around the world had to give their lives unsparingly while binding the infinite life from the middle to the yoke of dialectical materialism. Many leftist leaders began to infiltrate various rightist parties. Without any protest, the abandoned workers went down to the work of sustenance and livelihood in their hearts. The spirit of service to humanity, sacrifice of personal interest for hardworking people still exists among them. The only difference is that the leaders and activists who wanted to establish a religionless left-reign by expelling religion from the society, now with the passing of time, most of them have forgotten dialectical materialism and are preserving their afterlife in the theistic intersection of prayer and fasting. It is said that it is not possible to sustain human civilization and creation without the development of healthy mentality. So much organization of society, state and creation for people. No sane person can accept the doctrine of killing this representative of the Creator unjustly in the name of revolution without trial according to the existing law. The liberation of humanity does not come by dividing people, carrying out extermination. Doctrine then becomes useless. Social division on economic basis gives birth to violence in the society. Economic fundamentals are also relative over time. I believe that many of the systems of state and society formation of the left politics would have been accepted by the common people and would have survived in the long run if they were applied in a revised model to suit the culture, values, social fabric and religious beliefs of our country. But it was important to have integrity, morality, education and religious ideals. They minimize social conflicts. Many who are motivated by social service and self-sacrifice for the hardworking people have now responded to the call of others. Many people have remained in this society in various professions. In the minds of many of them, the addiction of liberation of the deprived people, the religion of humanity remains. If they can be reawakened in the ideals of social service and building an educated nation, they can participate in building an educated society.
There are other parties in the society. One of them is the retirees. A part of it is well-educated – those who have honestly served as officers in various public and private organizations, military forces. From their acquired knowledge and skills they hope to serve the society. They are spread all over the country. Many of them want to give something back to society as volunteers in the later part of their lives. They are respected in society. Society wants them. Their role is paramount in building an educated society. They need to be found and engaged in the work of social development. A policy needs to be handed down.
Another part of the society is also mixed – those who have education and knowledge. Has the ability to understand good and bad. Society still takes their word for it. A part of them has gone astray, forgetting their self-respect by joining political parties. The rest are on the right track. In society they are known as teachers. They can take responsibility for social education as well as student education. You can find the right path for the nation by giving knowledge, dignity, education, thinking, new ideas, guidance. You can give good education to the people of the society. I believe, they will come forward if they get a fair environment and a favorable environment for building society.
Finally, when social justice goes away from the society, happiness, peace and security of the people go away from the society. Only those who live in the shadow of the powerful live there. But the constitution makers have promised in the preamble of the constitution that ‘one of the main goals of our state will be the establishment of a democratic system of an exploitation-free socialist society where the rule of law, basic human rights and political, economic and social equality, freedom and justice are guaranteed for all citizenswill beAnd if we accept the Jatiya Rogi Kalyan Society as a social movement to create social education and healthy society, and if we use various social organizations for this purpose, then there should not be a lack of social education in this country. If you can create a non-political platform by bringing together these social parties, if you try to organize voluntary social organizations, and if you get state sponsorship, it is possible to build a good education and a fair society in this country in a very short time.
