Monday 11 March 2024 Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Md. Tajul Islam emphasized on increasing the speed of work of various city corporations of the country and said that we are all working so that people can get services easily and in a hassle-free environment. City corporations play an important role in providing public services. Therefore, effective steps and initiatives will be taken to ensure that all the city corporations of the country are financially strong and remove the legal anomalies so that they can serve the people properly.
He said this today in the speech of the chief guest at a meeting with the mayors of the city corporation in the meeting room of the local government department. Local Government Department Secretary Muhammad Ibrahim presided over the meeting.
After listening to the problems of the city corporations in providing citizen services, the local government minister said that there will be various problems and obstacles to work, we have to move forward by solving all those problems. He said that if the mayors of the city corporation receive any kind of non-cooperation from the ministry, all obstacles will be removed.
He said, if the City Corporation knows in advance the information about the various works of other ministries in the area under the City Corporation, the coordination is good and everyone can perform their tasks properly.
Md. Tajul Islam said, in order to avoid suffering due to lack of coordination in receiving services, the lack of coordination should be eliminated and an environment of uninterrupted service should be established.

Mostafizar Rahman (Mostafa), Barisal City Corporation Mayor Abul Khair Abdullah, Acting Mayor Comilla Habibur Al-Amin.
At the end of the meeting, the Minister of Local Government said that the problems discussed in today’s meeting will be discussed with the senior officials of the ministry and the solvable problems will be worked on very quickly. The local government minister thanked the mayors of various city corporations of the country for attending the meeting.
Meanwhile, this afternoon, a delegation led by Deputy Foreign Minister of Belarus Evgeny Shestakov met at the office of Local Government Minister Md. Tajul Islam. In the meeting, the issues related to the interests of both the countries were discussed in detail. The Deputy Foreign Minister of Belarus said that his country is interested in taking students from Bangladesh for higher education in the field of agriculture. As the population of Belarus is small compared to its size, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus also expressed interest in hiring workers from Bangladesh. Also, he proposed to import milk and milk products from Belarus.
The Minister of Local Government at the time expressed optimism that Belarus’ investment in a project to purchase various equipment for seven city corporations and 37 district municipalities would be finalised.
