A mobile court sentenced 2 people named Mir Iqbal Swapan (32) and Jasmine Akhtar (22) for the crime of prostitution in Kaliganj upazila of Lalmonirhat.
The imprisoned Iqbal Swapan is said to be the son of deceased Mozammel Haque of that upazila and Jasmine Akhtar is the daughter of Idris Ali of Phulpur upazila of Mymensingh district.
According to the sources of the mobile court conducting the operation, Kaliganj upazila executive officer Zahir Imam conducted the mobile court on Thursday (29 February) evening in the Chapartal area of Kakina Union of the upazila in the house of Iqbal Swapan Hossain.
At that time, the owner of that house, Iqbal Hossain Swapan and Jasmine Akhtar, admitted to being involved in body trade.
Later, the trial court sentenced Iqbal Hossain Swapan to 2 months and Jasmin Akhtar to 15 days without labor for the crime of engaging in prostitution.
In this regard, Kaliganj upazila executive officer Zahir Imam said such operations will continue in the future.
