Chairman Abu Bakkar Siddique Shyamal, who won the Lalmonirhat Zilla Parishad by-election, took oath.  Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina recited the oath to him.
The swearing-in ceremony of the newly elected Zilla Parishad Chairman was held at the Prime Minister’s office on Monday (May 6) at noon.  Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister and State Minister and related officials were present on the occasion.
On April 3, Abu Bakkar Siddique Shyamal won the by-election for the chairmanship of Lalmonirhat District Council by getting 282 votes.
The post became vacant when the former chairman of Zilla Parishad, Advocate Matiar Rahman, resigned and was elected MP from Lalmonirhat-3 (Sadar) constituency in the 12th parliamentary elections.
Five candidates emerged when the by-election schedule was announced.  Abu Bakkar Siddique Shyamal contested the Zilla Parishad election after leaving the post of chairman of the district’s Gaddimari Union Parishad and won by a margin of 9 votes.
