Kurigram Correspondent : Police have recovered Indian cannabis, several cannabis plants and arrested a cannabis farmer in a 100-day drive against drugs in Bhurungamari Upazila of Kurigram.
On Sunday (August 2), members of Bhurungamari Police Station led by Bhurungamari Circle Assistant Superintendent of Police Muntasir Mamun Moon conducted separate drives in different areas of the upazila and recovered these drugs.
Police said that around 10 am, a temporary check post was set up on a narrow bridge adjacent to Dafadar intersection in Bhurungamari Sadar Union and vehicles were searched. At that time, about 4 kg of Indian cannabis was recovered from a sack of paddy husk in an auto-rickshaw heading to Bhurungamari market. However, sensing the presence of the police, the person transporting the drugs jumped out of the moving auto-rickshaw and fled. The recovered cannabis will be sent to the court as abandoned evidence in the General Diary (GD) original. Later, if the ownership is identified, a regular case will be filed against the person concerned.
On the same day, around 12 noon, two mature cannabis plants were recovered from the yard of the house of Fajr Ali Shukkur (55) in the Paikdanga area of ​​Char Bhurungamari Union. Police have arrested Fajr Ali Shukkur on charges of cultivating cannabis in this incident. The process of filing a case against him under the Narcotics Control Act is underway.
In addition, based on a secret tip-off, two more cannabis plants without ownership were seized from the river bank between the old railway bridge and the newly built road bridge in Sonahat. The police said that necessary legal action will be taken after the investigation in this regard.
Bhurungamari Circle Assistant Superintendent of Police Muntasir Mamun Moon said that no matter where or by what method drug dealers operate their drug business, the police are capable of uncovering it. Our campaign against drugs will continue. It is possible to build a drug-free Bhurungamari only through the cooperation and collective efforts of law enforcement agencies and the local people.
