Jail is the last resort for drug addicts – 3 youths in Kurigram sentenced to 6 months in prison

Kurigram Correspondent: A mobile court has sentenced three youths to six months in prison for consuming marijuana in Phulbari Upazila of Kurigram.

A raid was conducted at the residence of drug dealer Liton in Kuti Chandrakhana village of Phulbari Sadar Union of the upazila on Thursday (August 6) afternoon. During the raid, law enforcement officers arrested three youths while they were consuming marijuana.

Later, Phulbari Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Anwar Hossain conducted a mobile court and sentenced the three detainees to six months’ imprisonment.
The convicted are Chandan Kumar (28), son of the late Binod Chandra of Uttar Kuti Chandrakhana village in the upazila, Atiqur Rahman (28), son of Aminur Rahman of Ajoatari village, and Krishna Chandra (27), son of Khokon Chandra of Purba Shukati village in Nageshwari upazila.

Phulbari Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Anwar Hossain confirmed the incident and said that they were sentenced through a mobile court for the crime of drug consumption. The convicts have been sent to Kurigram District Jail on the basis of a sentencing warrant.
