Staff Reporter: Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has ordered to activate the waterways around the capital Dhaka. At the same time, he instructed the concerned authorities on how to prevent pollution of Dhaka’s rivers, improve the drainage system and keep the navigability and water flow of the rivers normal.
He gave these instructions at a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on activating the waterways around Dhaka.
The meeting was held in the special meeting room of the Cabinet Division of the Bangladesh Secretariat today, Sunday. The Prime Minister’s Deputy Press Secretary Shahadat Swadhin reported this.
He said that the decision to activate the waterways around the capital Dhaka was taken in the meeting. In addition, it was decided to give the opportunity to operate water buses on the waterways after considering the proposals of interested private companies.
Deputy Press Secretary Shahadat Swadhin said that in the meeting, the Prime Minister instructed the concerned authorities on how to prevent pollution of Dhaka’s rivers, improve the drainage system and maintain normal navigability and water flow of the river, in addition to activating the waterway.
The Prime Minister also instructed to plant different species of trees along the walkways built around the river, so that environmental protection is ensured and the beauty of the riverbanks is enhanced.
Minister for Road Transport and Bridges, Railways and Shipping Sheikh Rabiul Alam, State Minister for Environment, Forests and Climate Change Sheikh Faridul Islam, Administrator of Dhaka North City Corporation Md. Shafiqul Islam Khan, Administrator of Dhaka South City Corporation Md. Abdus Salam, Additional Press Secretary to the Prime Minister Atiqur Rahman Rumon and senior officials of the concerned ministries and organizations were present in the meeting.
