After the initial hearing of a writ petition filed regarding the 2026-2028 elections of the Comilla Press Club, the High Court Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh issued a show cause notice to the head of the Comilla Press Club’s EC committee and the relevant defendants, and issued a rule against the illegal committees and committees of the press club to respond to the postponement of the elections.

In Writ Petition No. 10173/2026, the petitioner, journalist Abdullah Al Mansur, alleged through the writ petition that the election schedule was announced on July 13, 2026, based on the preparation of an illegal and incorrect voter list by the current committee of the Comilla Press Club. However, the President, General Secretary and EC Head of the Comilla Press Club and others did not take any effective action regarding the complaint of the legal notice, and the EC Head of the Comilla Press Club and others are involved in the process of holding the election on July 30.

The writ petition seeks instructions to correct the incorrect voter list, prepare a new and correct voter list, publish a new election schedule and hold the election on a rescheduled date as per the constitution of the Comilla Press Club.

After the initial hearing of the writ petition, a division bench comprising learned Justice Mrs. Fahmida Quader and learned Justice Asif Hasan of the High Court Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh issued a rule against the respondents and summoned all those responsible for the election issue, including the Chief Election Commissioner of the Comilla Press Club election. And also asked to respond to the Honorable High Court Division.

Advocate Md. Abdur Rahman, a lawyer of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh, conducted the case on behalf of the applicant. According to the certificate given by him, the writ was filed on 29 July 2026 and the inaction of the concerned authorities has been challenged in it.
