As always, the size of the government’s development budget is decreasing this time. In the annual development program (ADP) of the current financial year, Tk 2 lakh 63 thousand crores have been allocated, but Tk 18 thousand crores are being cut midway.

The Planning Department presented this proposal at the National Economic Council (ECNEC) meeting on Tuesday (March 12) morning. However, 240 new projects are being added to the list. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina presided over the meeting.

According to the Planning Commission, transport, power and energy sectors are also getting importance in the revised ADP. This time, the size of foreign financing has decreased significantly. However, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina ordered a quick discount on these loans to increase the supply of dollars.

In the draft proposal, the Planning Commission has proposed to give more importance to completion of ongoing projects. In the first 6 months of the current financial year, the ADP implementation rate stood at 27.1 percent. Which is lowest in last 14 years.
