The High Court has suspended the decision to cancel the char allowance of government primary school teachers. On Wednesday (January 10), the High Court bench of Justice Naima Haider and Justice Kazi Zeenat Haque gave the order after hearing an application filed by 10 teachers of Rangabali Upazila of Patuakhali. Muhammad Siddique Ullah Mia, the lawyer of the petitioners, heard in the court on behalf of the writ. It is known that Rangabali Upazila of Patuakhali district is a Char Upazila declared by the government. The writ petitioners are teachers working in various government primary schools located in the said Rangabali upazila. On March 5, 2019, the government introduced a monthly risk allowance called Char Bhata for teachers working in Char Upazila. Thereafter the petitioners were getting char allowance. But on August 22 last year, the Department of Primary Education issued an order canceling the char allowance of the said teachers. Aggrieved against the order, 10 teachers filed a writ petition. After the preliminary hearing of the writ petition, on November 6, the High Court issued a ruling seeking to know why the order canceling Char Bhata on August 22 should not be invalid. Lawyer Siddique Ullah Mia said that he gave a stay order on Wednesday in an application as that rule is under consideration.
