Child marriage stopped in Barura, Comilla with the help of UNO. It is known on the basis of secret information that Josna Begum’s daughter got married to a person named Sohel Mia of Burichong upazila before she turned 18 years old in Nabipur village of Khoshbas North Union of upazila on Wednesday.
Barura Upazila Executive Officer Nu-Emong Marma Mong stopped the child marriage according to the rules of mobile court after hearing the news that child marriage was being given to the girl.
Meanwhile, in the presence of local public representatives and civil society leaders, the girl’s mother, Josna Begum, gave a written pledge not to give her daughter a child marriage until she turns 18. Barura Upazila Executive Officer Nu-Emong Marma Mong informed the public and civil society leaders about the evils of child marriage.
