Child marriage was stopped with the help of Comilla’s Barura Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Nu-Mong Marma Mong.
On Sunday, March 3, at 12 noon, Fatema Akhter, a ninth grade student of Muguji Master Abdus Sobhan High School, the daughter of deceased Omar Farooq, was scheduled to marry at the house of Jalil Mia, Muguji, Khoshbas, Union of Upazila.
On the basis of secret information, the Upazila Women’s Affairs Officer Afroza Begum confirmed the matter through her representative, after the Barura Upazila Executive Officer Nu-Emong Marma Mong appeared on the spot and conducted the mobile court.
At that time, he collected a fine of 5 thousand rupees according to the Prevention and Prevention of Child Marriage Act. And the current guardian Md. Jalil Mia and mother Salma Begum signed the undertaking in the presence of the upazila executive officer that the girl will not be married off as a child until the age of 18 years.
Md. Ibrahim Khalil working in the office of the Upazila Women’s Affairs Officer, Md. Sharif Uddin, the gender promoter of the youth club establishment project managed by the Barura Upazila Women’s Affairs Directorate, were present at the time. Journalist Md. Zahir Hossain along with civil society and close relatives were present.
