In Dumki of Patuakhali, there were complaints of obstructing the construction of houses on Kabala land and looting construction materials including bricks, sand and cement. An armed gang of 10/15 persons led by Birbal Sheel, son of the brother of Banmali Sheel, son of deceased Raj Kumar Sheel, the owner of recordio No. 437 SA Khatian of Dumki Satani village of Angaria union of the upazila, attacked and looted the house under construction of deceased Latif Hawladar at 1.30 pm on February 26. The miscreants went on a sudden terror rampage in the deserted under-construction house, looting the piled goods and dumping them in the nearby pond, leaving the family feeling insecure as they threatened to kill them.

Dumki Satani Mokimjan Lower Secondary School Headmaster Golam Mostafa Sikdar, son-in-law of Latif Howladar, son-in-law of late Latif Howladar, made these allegations in a written statement on behalf of the family in a crowded press conference organized in the press club, Dumki hall room yesterday morning. Mustafa Master said, his father-in-law Abdul Latif Hawladar (contractor) bought 97 percent of the land registered in 1994 from Banmali Sheel, son of Raj Kumar Sheel of Dumki Satani Mauza, and built tin shed house. Birbal Sheel filed a civil case No. CR 457/96 in Patuakhali District Judge’s Court claiming to be the deed of the donor Banmali Sheel. Although the same case was filed in the High Court and the Supreme Court, all the judgments were defeated, but now the opponents have indulged in the attempt of coercion by capitalizing on the communal issue of the minority. Meanwhile, as there were three verdicts in favor of the case, the minority family led by Birbal Sheel, the son of the opponent Banmali Sheel’s brother, recently bought and deposited bricks, sand and cement for the construction of the building and looted all the goods. The family is currently living in extreme insecurity under the constant threat of mercenary terror forces belonging to the minority Birbal Sheel. In the future, they are worried about the family members being attacked, murdered and injured at any time and requested the intervention of the administration. At the same time, he demanded strict legal action against the accused. Accused Birbal Sheel denied the allegations made by the opponent and claimed that 2 women and one boy of the minority family were beaten up.

Officer-in-charge of Dumki police station Tarek Md. Abdul Hannan said that a case has been filed in the police station and in the court. The case is under investigation. Legal action will be taken if the allegations are found to be true in the investigation.
