Various religious programs are going on on the occasion of Shiva Chaturdashi for three days at the traditional Shivbari of Ponabalia in Sadar Upazila of Jhalkathi, which is the third international seat of traditional religions. On this occasion, a three-day rural heritage fair was held.

From Friday night, various religious rituals including puja worship, Shiva darshan, punyasnan started with the puja ceremony of Trambakeshwar Bhairav. Sat big on Saturday fair From morning, the fair grounds became bustling with visitors. Thousands of visitors from home and abroad come to this fair to fulfill their desires. This fair ends on Sunday morning.

The organizers of the fair said that this fair has been held every year for more than 400 years. It is believed that the origin of this fair is due to the fact that thousands of Sanatan religious devotees of various ages from home and abroad come to visit Shiva on the occasion of Shiva Chaturdashi. The fair grounds have become busy with pilgrims walking.

Housewives come to Shiva to appease Lord Shiva for the well-being of their husbands. And unmarried girls come to appease the deity by arranging flowers and water offerings in anticipation of their own worthy groom (husband) like Shiva. According to the description of Purana, the scripture of Sanatana Dharma followers, when Daksha Raja did not invite his daughter Sati, the humiliated Sati died at the place of sacrifice. Enraged by this, Shiva started the deluge dance with the body of his wife Sati on his head. At that time, Lord Vishnu dismembered Sati’s body with his chakra to save the Yajna from destruction. The places where the fragments fall, become places of pilgrimage.
