Victim Md. Joynal Abedin Badsha held a press conference at the hall of Mamarbari Restaurant in Moulvibazar demanding proper investigation and justice. In a recent written statement, he said that he has been working on various local social problems, human rights and public interest issues. He is also a local media worker. He organized this press conference to highlight the real facts, related information and sequence of events regarding the two check cases filed against him. In his written statement, he mentioned that in March 2024, his neighbor Md. Masuk Mia complained that he had received money through the Dutch-Bangla Bank agent banking account of a person named Mahbub Murshed, talking about the Indian sugar business. Later, a mediation meeting was held at the Srimangal Upazila Parishad regarding the matter. At one stage of the arbitration meeting, two signed checks of Al-Arafah Islami Bank were received from him and a written agreement was signed. Later, based on those checks, cases GR 255/2024 (Session No. 581/2024) and GR 256/2024 (Session No. 582/2024) were filed against him, which are currently under appeal. At the press conference, he also said that during the course of the case, when the information of the relevant bank account was verified on the court’s orders, the Dutch-Bangla Bank authorities informed the court in writing that the existence of the said account number was not found in their Srimangal branch. He said that the verdict in the two cases was announced on March 9, 2026. In one case, he was sentenced to 1 month in prison and a fine, and in the other case, he was sentenced to 1 year in prison and a fine of 18 lakh taka. He mentioned that the matter is currently under appeal. Joynal Abedin Badsha alleged that on April 30, while he was on his way to Srimangal to collect money for the appeal, some people detained him and took him to a garage on Habiganj Road in the city. There, he was physically tortured and his mobile phone and money were snatched away. A video of the incident went viral on social media. In addition, his wife was detained and physically harassed and two mobile phones, 25,000 taka in cash and about two bhari of used gold ornaments were taken from her vanity bag. A written complaint was filed with the concerned police station in this incident. At the press conference, he said, “I have full trust and respect for the judiciary and the courts of Bangladesh. If the case documents and related information and evidence are properly verified in the High Court, the real truth will be revealed. He demanded that justice be ensured through an impartial investigation of the allegations brought against him, verification of accurate information and a fair investigation of the allegations raised by his family. The relevant documents of the case, bank reports and other documents were presented at the press conference.
