A gender workshop was held in Kaptai, Rangamati, under the initiative of Comprehensive Community Health Program (CCHP) Hillflower with the participation of media workers from electronic and print media.
The workshop, organized at Karnaphuli Hotel and Restaurant in Kaptai on Saturday (June 7), was chaired by Hillflower’s Assistant Program Manager Jenifa Ajanta Tanchangya,
and moderated by Assistant Program Manager Sanjit Tanchangya. Christian Hospital Chandraghona Director Dr. Prabir Kheyang was present as the chief guest. Kaptai Upazila Social Service Officer Nazmul Hasan was present as the special guest. In addition, CCHP Program Manager Bijoy Marma was present as the special guest.
In the speech of the chief guest, Dr. Prabir Kheyang said, ensuring gender equality is very important in building a developed, non-discriminatory and inclusive society. Sustainable development is not possible without equal participation of women and men. The media can play an effective role in eliminating gender-based discrimination by disseminating accurate information and raising awareness.
In her speech as the president, Jenifa Ajanta Tanchangya said, “Gender equality is not just a matter of ensuring equal rights between women and men, it is one of the prerequisites for building a humane and just society. The media acts as a mirror of society. Therefore, she called on journalists to play a more responsible role in positive social change by maintaining gender sensitivity in reporting news.
Special guest Nazmul Hasan said, “Establishing gender equality requires coordinated efforts from government institutions, non-governmental organizations, the media and the general public. If equal rights are ensured at all levels of society, the overall development of the country will be further accelerated.
The workshop discussed in detail the importance of gender equality, women’s empowerment, gender sensitivity in the media and responsible journalism in social development. The participants expressed their determination to play an effective role in eliminating gender-based discrimination in the media and increasing awareness.
At this time, CCHP’s Hillflower Project Supervisor Dhanamani Tanchangya, BMW Kromraching Marma and BMW Poppy Tanchangya informed the media personnel present about the field service activities and various initiatives of the project.
Journalists from electronic and print media of Kaptai, Bilaichhari, Rangunia and Rajasthali upazilas participated in the workshop.
The speakers said that ensuring gender equality is very important in building a non-discriminatory and inclusive society. In this regard, the media can play an important role in creating awareness, promoting positive values ​​and social change.
