The Upazila administration and the Galachipa Upazila Senior Fisheries Office of the Fisheries Department have seized 30 China nets from various canals and bels of Galachipa Upazila, Patuakhali.
On Monday, July 21, from the morning to 3 pm, in a joint operation with Galachipa Police Station, illegal China nets worth nearly two lakh taka were seized by Upazila Senior Fisheries Officer Md. Zahirunnabi from various water bodies including Boalia Canal.
Later, at 5 pm, the seized China nets were set on fire and destroyed in the presence of Executive Officer Abuzar Md. Ijazul Haque in the premises of the Upazila Parishad.
Senior Fisheries Officer Md. Zahirunnabi said in this regard that these illegal China nets have been destroying various silver resources of the country and causing irreparable damage to the country by destroying fish fry. So, so that no one can destroy the pona anymore, it has been destroyed by setting it on fire. In addition, a campaign is underway against all types of banned nets.
Upazila Executive Officer Abuzar Md. Ijazul Haque said, “We all have to come forward to increase public awareness to protect the country’s silver resources.” The upazila administration is working on this issue. Illegal net sellers and users will not be given any kind of exemption.
