Dhaka 21 May 2026:
A meeting of the UN-Habitat Executive Director was held in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, with the Bangladesh delegation.
The Bangladesh delegation sought UN-Habitat’s cooperation in housing policy development, technical assistance, capacity building, research, use of digital technology in urban planning, development of climate-resilient infrastructure and capacity-building training activities.
The meeting discussed in detail various aspects of Bangladesh’s rapid urbanization, affordable housing, slum development, addressing the impacts of climate change, affordable housing policies and guidelines, slum development and rehabilitation, implementation of spatial planning laws, gender-sensitive public space design and inclusive urban planning.
The Bangladesh delegation, led by National Housing Authority Chairman Mosa Ferdousi Begum, also included Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Housing and Public Works Mohammad Abdul Awal and Chief Town Planner of RAJUK Md. Ashraful Islam.
UN-Habitat Executive Director Ms. Anacláudia Rossbach led the UN-Habitat delegation, which was also attended by Regional Director Ms. Kazuko Ishigaki and Mr. Srinivasa Popuri.
At the meeting, the Bangladesh delegation highlighted the government’s ongoing urban development initiatives, including affordable housing, green urbanization, slum development and inclusive urban infrastructure.
UN-Habitat officials praised Bangladesh’s urban development and climate-resilient initiatives and expressed their interest in working together in technical cooperation, knowledge exchange, research and pilot projects for sustainable and people-centered urban development in the future.
Both sides expressed their hope to further strengthen long-term cooperation to build sustainable urban development, social inclusion and climate-resilient urban systems.
