Moulvibazar Haor Raksha Andolon Committee has formed a human chain and signed a memorandum to resist the process of encroachment of haor land and wetlands by companies in the name of industrialization in front of Moulvibazar Press Club today, May 21, 2026 at 11 am. The human chain was held in protest of farmers demanding compensation based on a transparent list of flood-affected farmers, effective role of the government in preventing premature floods, and saving Kawadaghi and Hail Haor from the greedy eyes of Pran RFL, Islam Agrovet and other multinational companies. Under the chairmanship of Moulvibazar Haor Protection Movement Committee convener ASM Saleh Sohel and moderated by Member Secretary M Khasru Chowdhury, Ranjit Debnath, Syed Kamal Ahmed Babu, Shamsuddin Master, Md. Alamgir Hossain, Md. Khairul Islam, Shahin Iqbal, journalists Hossain Ahmed, Sona Mia, Shipon Mia, Dewan Munakib Chowdhury and other farmer leaders of the haor banks spoke. The speakers said that the contribution of the haor region to the geography, biodiversity and economy of Bangladesh is very important. The vast water bodies of the haor during the rainy season are one of the largest natural fisheries in the country. Just as the government is neglecting these haors, multinational companies like RFL and Islam Agovt, the lifeblood of the looting class, have taken initiatives to occupy and pollute them. The corrupt bureaucracy is in cahoots with this. Adding insult to injury, thousands of acres of paddy fields have been submerged in this year’s floods. The authorities are preparing opaque lists, many genuine farmers, sharecroppers and daily wage farmers are being left out of the compensation list. We condemn this and announce our opposition to the process of land/wetland encroachment by companies in the name of industrialization. Under no circumstances will the haor be allowed to be occupied by violating laws and regulations, including changing the land class, destroying the haor environment in the middle of the haor. The farmers of the haor and the farmers of Bangladesh will launch a strong movement. Finally, the human chain and protest farmers’ rally were concluded by submitting two memorandums to the Secretary of the Land Ministry and the Deputy Commissioner of Moulvibazar.
