Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Saber Hossain Chowdhury said that the government is going to form the Bangladesh Climate Development Partnership (BCDP) to get the necessary money to deal with climate change. The minister said that the development agencies have been giving money to different institutions to deal with the effects of climate. As there is no order in this case, the money is not being utilized. This platform will play a role in strengthening the relationship between government and development partners.

The Environment Minister said this in an exchange meeting with development partners on Bangladesh Climate Development Partnership (BCDP) at Hotel Intercontinental in the capital.

Hon’ble Prime Minister’s Principal Secretary Tofajzel Hossain Mia presided over the event. Dr. Secretary of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change spoke at the event. Farhina Ahmed and Edmon Ginting, Country Director of the Asian Development Bank of Bangladesh. The Ministry’s Additional Secretary (Climate Change) Iqbal Abdullah Haroon presented the guidelines for the implementation of the BCDP. Also, secretaries of various ministries and representatives of development agencies spoke.

The environment minister said that Bangladesh needs 534 billion dollars to deal with climate change by 2050. 47 billion for the Bangladesh Delta Plan, 230 billion for the National Adaptation Plan, 90 billion for the Mujib Climate Prosperity Plan and 176 billion for the implementation of the National Determined Contribution. In order to achieve the investments that enable us to achieve our goals, we are keen to work with significant economies and partners. If development agencies work together, problem solving will be easier.

The environment minister said the partnership could help governments mobilize climate finance from the Global Climate Fund, thereby improving the overall global climate finance framework. It is imperative that the government utilizes this opportunity to its full potential, as it will have a significant impact on the country’s ability to combat climate change and ensure a sustainable future for its citizens.
