Kurigram Correspondent : The closing ceremony of the 7-day District Tree Fair held in Kurigram was held with the theme ‘Beautify the country with tree planting, Bangladesh first’.
The closing ceremony of the district tree fair was held at the Kurigram Outer Stadium on Saturday (August 1) afternoon, organized by the district administration and the forest department.
The closing ceremony was attended as the chief guest by,
Nurul Islam, Deputy Conservator of Forests and Divisional Forest Officer of Social Forest Division, Rangpur. District Council Administrator Sohel Hosnain Kaikobad was present as a special guest. Additional Deputy Commissioner (General)B.M Qudrat-e-Khuda presided over the function.
Also present were NDC Saifuddin, Forest Department Officer-in-Charge Sadiqur Rahman, representatives of various government departments, political leaders, teachers and students of educational institutions, environmentalists, and local dignitaries.
Speakers at the event said that there is no alternative to planting trees to combat the adverse effects of climate change. They urged everyone to plant more trees from their respective locations to maintain environmental balance, conserve biodiversity, and build a livable Bangladesh for future generations.
28 stalls of various government and private nurseries, forest, fruit, medicinal and ornamental plants participated in the fair. During the fair, a large number of visitors collected seedlings of different species and expressed interest in tree plantation.
At the closing ceremony, the best stalls selected among the stalls participating in the fair were awardedand tree seedlings were distributed among the students.
Forest Department Officer-in-Charge Sadiqur Rahman said the main objective of the tree fair was to raise awareness among the general public about the importance of tree plantation and to further accelerate social forestry. He expressed hope that such programs will continue in the future to conserve the environment .
Those concerned believe that the conclusion of this fair, held in a festive atmosphere, has created new enthusiasm for greening and protecting the environment in Kurigram.
