Symbol of tradition Jhalakathi Chattar inaugurated

Gazi Gias Uddin Bashir Jhalakathi :: The municipal authorities have named the entrance to Jhalakathi city, coming from the direction of Barisal, as “Jhalakathi Chattar”.

A mural depicting history and tradition has been constructed there in a captivating design measuring 18 feet high.

The official inauguration of the square was held on Wednesday, March 8 at 11 am. Municipal Administrator Md. Kawsar Hossain, who was present as the chief guest, cut the ribbon and unveiled the flag. Other officials of the municipality were present at the time.

The upper part of the mural features a concrete Hilsa fish, three large guavas in the middle, and the lower part is adorned with traditional structures and historical monuments of Jhalakathi.

Mural artist Atiq Islam said that the old landlord’s house, the traditional floating guava market, the scene of fishermen fishing in the Sugantha River, and the scene of making the traditional Jhalakathi Shital Pati are featured here.

It is being created by sculptors and mural artists Atiq Islam and Al-Amin Akon, according to the plans and designs provided by Jhalakati Municipality Administrator Kawsar Hossain. They are being assisted by Golam Rabbi and Akkas Akon.

Municipal Administrator Kawsar Hossain said, “Jhalakathi Chattar will be a meeting place where the touch of history, the beauty of art, and modern urban aesthetics will blend together.”

Visitors say that this place is truly a charming place, and sitting under the shade of trees is refreshing. At the same time, it reminds us of history and tradition.
