Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapan has said that many of the existing problems in the sector will be solved automatically if true professionalism is ensured in the media.

He said, “The government is determined to ensure free and accurate information to the people and to protect them from misinformation.”

He said this during a courtesy call and exchange of views with a delegation of the Broadcast Journalists Center (BJC) at the ministry’s meeting room at the Secretariat today (Wednesday) afternoon.

During the meeting, the delegation presented a power point presentation to the minister on various problems and prospects of electronic media.

Highlighting the challenges of the present time, the Information Minister commented, “Our policy is analog but the challenge is digital.”

He said that the existing policies need to be modernized to adapt to the rapid changes of the digital era. The government wants to play the role of a ‘facilitator’ or facilitator rather than imposing anything.

Zahir Uddin Swapan said that a ‘Mass Media Commission’ will be formed based on the opinions of all parties concerned to find permanent and sustainable solutions to various media-related problems.

However, in this case, he placed special emphasis on a healthy consensus among all parties concerned with the media.

He expressed hope that the constructive suggestions of the stakeholders would be helpful in making this commission effective.

BJC Chairman Fahim Ahmed, Member Secretary Ilias Hossain, and Trustee Members Rejoanul Haque, Talat Mamun, and Nur Safa Zulhaj were present at the meeting and exchange of views.

The leaders of the delegation highlighted the need for digitalization of broadcast media, professional protection of journalists, and the technical and policy-making aspects of various crises in electronic media.

The Information Minister assured that their proposals would be considered seriously.
