Measles-Rubella in Jhalakathi Sadar: 73 suspected patients receiving treatment, new admissions increasing

So far, 73 children and elderly patients suspected of being infected with measles-rubella have received treatment at Jhalakathi Sadar Hospital. Currently, 8 patients are admitted to the hospital.
On Wednesday (May 6) morning, Jhalakathi Sadar Hospital Superintendent Dr. Masum Iftekhar confirmed the matter. He said that the patients are being treated with utmost importance and the health department is closely monitoring the entire situation.
A relative of a child admitted to the hospital said that his daughter suddenly developed high fever, sore throat and red eyes. Later, she was admitted to the hospital in panic. After four days of treatment, she is now somewhat better than before.
Another parent said that her five-year-old son suddenly started having fever, red eyes and headache. Although he was initially given medicine from a local pharmacy, he was brought to the hospital as his condition did not improve. Later, doctors diagnosed him with measles. After four days of treatment, the child is now on the road to recovery.
According to the district health department, 176 suspected patients have been identified so far in the measles-rubella outbreak in Jhalakathi. Of these, 9 have been confirmed to have measles and 2 have died.
In the last 24 hours, 3 new patients have been admitted to the hospital in the district, while 7 have recovered and returned home after treatment.
The hospital authorities said that all necessary measures have been taken to control the situation and the public has been urged to remain aware.
