Sunamganj Correspondent : A boat capsized on the way home from a religious ceremony in Jagannathpur Upazila, Sunamganj. The incident occurred at 3 am on Friday in the Baithakhali area of ​​Jagannathpur Municipality. At that time, other passengers got ashore, but 4 people were missing. The body of a person named Arun Deb Nath was recovered at 11:30 am on Saturday.
A team of fire brigade has been working at the scene since Saturday morning for rescue work. The missing are Adhir Debnath (50), Hemendra Debnath (55) and Satindra Debnath (52) from Bhabanipur area.
Locals said that some people from Bhabanipur had gone to a religious ceremony of the Hindu community at a house in Baluchal area on the banks of Moiyar Haor, next to the municipality. At around 3 am, while returning home by dinghy, the boat sank in the Baithakhali area of ​​Moiyar Haor. Although some people managed to get to the shore, Arun Debnath, Adhir Debnath, Hemendra Debnath and Satindra Debnath, who were on the boat, went missing. Fire Service divers recovered Arun Debnath’s body at 12:30 pm.
Jagannathpur Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Islam Uddin said that fire service personnel have started rescue work at the scene. One body has been recovered, while three people are still missing. However, the rescue work is ongoing.
