Stakeholder linkage workshop held under ‘SMART’ project in Laksam

On Monday (June 15), a stakeholder linkage workshop was held at Laksam Upazila Conference Room in Comilla under the ‘Sustainable Micro Enterprise and Resilient Transformation (SMART)’ project implemented by PAGE Development Center with funding from the World Bank and Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF). The workshop titled ‘Promotion of Value-Added Vegetables for Sustainable Growth and RECP Practices’ emphasized on skill development and market linkages of agricultural entrepreneurs.
Laksam Upazila Agriculture Officer Al Amin presided over the program and Agriculture Extension Department Comilla Additional Deputy Director, Agriculturist Sheikh Azizur Rahman was present as the chief guest. In his speech as the chief guest, he said that the use of environmentally friendly methods and modern technology is essential for sustainable agriculture. The quality of life of small entrepreneurs can be improved through safe vegetable production and proper marketing system.
Laksam Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Nargis Sultana inaugurated the program and delivered the welcome speech. She said that this workshop will serve as a milestone in improving the quality of products produced by small entrepreneurs and linking them with various government and private institutions.
Dr. Md. Jamal Uddin, Chief Scientific Officer, Field Research Department, Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI), Comilla, was present as the special guest. He highlighted the technical aspects of RECP (Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production) practice to maintain the balance of cultivation and environment in a scientific manner.
Deen Mohammad, Manager of the ‘SMART’ project of Page Development Center, moderated the entire program and presented the keynote speech. In his presentation, he explained in detail the main objectives of the project, efficient use of resources, reduction of pollution and increasing the economic capacity of small entrepreneurs.
Around 60 small vegetable entrepreneurs participated in the workshop. The speakers at the event listened to the various problems of the entrepreneurs and provided necessary guidance to solve them. The entrepreneurs present expressed their determination to further modernize their business and farming through such an event.
