Al Shahriar Gym, Rangpur Correspondent: A neighbor’s step-sister has been accused of attempting to beat up, abusing and threatening to kill a housewife for refusing to give false testimony in a case filed against a local expatriate journalist in the Mahadevpur Chowrapa (West Para) area of ​​Kotwali Sadar Police Station in Rangpur. The victim has filed a written complaint with the police station in this incident.
In her written complaint, the victim, Mosha Sabnaz Begum, mentioned that her neighbor (her half-sister) Shahinur Begum had an ongoing dispute with Dubai-based journalist Nowsher Alam Sumon over land in the same area. Due to this dispute, Shahinur Begum filed a case of female torture and molestation against journalist Sumon and pressured him to give false testimony in the case.
But when he refused to give false testimony, Shahinur Begum became angry with him and started quarreling with him at various times, the complaint states.
The complaint filed on Tuesday (April 7) further states that on April 3, 2026, at around 3 pm, Shahinur Begum came to her house and started abusing her in foul language, alleging that her pet chickens had destroyed the crops of the accused’s land. When she resisted, Shahinur Begum and other accused joined forces and attacked her with bamboo sticks to beat her up.
At that time, the accused Shahinur Begum’s husband, Saheb Ali, publicly abused her in obscene language and threatened to kill her. At the same time, at the instigation of the other accused, they tried to cause great harm to the victim and her family and also threatened to set the house on fire, the complaint states.
Some local people came forward to save him to bring the situation under control. However, the accused left the scene threatening to send him to jail by filing false cases in the future.
Victim Sabnaz Begum said, Shahinur Begum is very oppressive and litigious. Almost everyone in the area is a victim of her oppression and false cases. In continuation of this, my step-sister Shahinur Begum filed a false case against our neighbor journalist Sumon. She started pressuring me to give false testimony in that case. When I refused to give false testimony, she started various types of torture on me. Due to her oppression, I and my family are currently suffering from extreme insecurity. Therefore, I have filed a complaint with Kotwali Sadar Police Station seeking redress.
In this regard, Kotwali Police Station OC Investigation Md. Zahirul Haque said that the complaint has been accepted and necessary legal action will be taken subject to investigation.
