The journey of the new businessmen’s organization, Saudi Arabia Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry, began on Tuesday (October 7) at the Sheraton Hotel in Banani, Dhaka. The chamber’s logo was unveiled in a grand ceremony and Foreign Affairs Advisor Md. Touhid Hossain presided over the inauguration ceremony.
BNP Standing Committee Member Dr. Abdul Moin Khan was the special guest at the inauguration ceremony of the SABCCI-Chamber. In addition, leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami, Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP) and more than two hundred representatives from political, business and diplomatic circles were present.
In his speech as the chief guest, Foreign Affairs Advisor Towhid Hossain said, “The relationship between Bangladesh and Saudi Arabia is not just religious or humanitarian, it is a long-term friendship based on mutual trust. SABCCI will take that friendship to new heights, opening new doors of investment and trade possibilities.”
He urged Saudi businessmen to invest in Bangladesh’s ports, power, energy and mega projects. Referring to the government’s commitment to ensuring a business-friendly environment, he said Bangladesh can be an important partner in implementing Saudi Arabia’s ‘Vision 2030’.
Speaking as a special guest at the event chaired by SABCCI President Ashraful Haque Chowdhury, Dr. Abdul Moin Khan said, “It is surprising to think that 53 years after the independence of Bangladesh, we are seeing the birth of such an important chamber. My question is, why so late? He said, “Our relations with the Middle East, especially Saudi Arabia, are historic, yet this chamber has not been established even after so many days—it is surprising. Still, this auspicious beginning inspires hope.”
Speaking at the event, he also said, “We want the friendship between the two countries to become stronger, and at the same time, commercial relations to grow at an astonishing pace.”
Speakers at the event said that the Saudi Arabia-Bangladesh Chamber will bridge the business communities of the two countries, create new investment and employment opportunities, and make bilateral relations deeper and more future-oriented.
A cultural program was organized for the guests at the event, where artists from both countries performed a cultural evening, music, and dance. The event began with everyone standing up with the rendition of the national anthem.
A 20-member high-level team from the Saudi delegation participated in the opening ceremony, led by Sheikh Omar Abdulhafiz Amirbak, chairman of Majd Al Umran Group. The group has businesses in several sectors including hospitality and housing. The delegation includes Nazi Abdullah, director of Al Isai Group. The company has investments in various sectors including services and manufacturing. The delegation includes Mohammed Asif Salam, professor at King Abdulaziz University. He is also the chairman of an IT company. Dr. Khalid Al Harbi, professor and health sector expert at Al Taibah University in Saudi Arabia, also participated in the summit.
