Satkhira in Two Bangladeshis injured in BSF firing at Kaliganj border

Faruk Rahman, Satkhira : Two Bangladeshis were injured in firing by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) in the Basastapur border area of ​​Kaliganj upazila in Satkhira. The incident took place around 2:30 am on Wednesday in the Kalindi river area adjacent to the border.

The injured are Md. Mohiuddin (42), son of Md. Golam Rabbani of Shitalpur village in Kaliganj upazila, and Md. Shaheen (28), son of the deceased Khajer Ali Sardar of the same village.

According to local sources, the two men illegally went to India from Bangladesh a year ago in search of work. Later, they were working as mason workers in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu from Kolkata. They tried to return to the country illegally through the Basantapur border between 2 and 2:30 am on Wednesday. Suddenly, while they were swimming across the Kalindi River from the Bashjharia area adjacent to the Basastapur border and entering Bangladesh, BSF members opened fire on them. Both of them were shot. Later, local people rescued them and admitted them to the Kaliganj Upazila Health Complex at around 4 am. After receiving primary treatment there, they were sent to Satkhira Medical College Hospital.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kaliganj Police Station Jewel Hossain said, “Initially, it was learned that they had gone to India illegally and were similarly shot by the BSF while returning to Bangladesh. On receiving information, the police visited the spot.”
