A mobile court raid was conducted on an illegally run bakery factory in a house adjacent to Madhyaratna Ratnangkur Buddhist Vihar on Bhalukia Road, Court Bazar, Ukhia Upazila, Cox’s Bazar. During the raid, the factory owner was fined Tk 30,000 for using the logo of Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) on the product packaging without approval and producing food products in an unhygienic environment.
According to mobile court sources, during the raid, the logo was being used on the stickers of products produced in the bakery factory without BSTI approval. Besides, the factory environment was unhygienic, which was risky for public health. For these crimes, the accused was fined Tk 30,000 under Section 15(1) of the BSTI Act, 2018.
In the same drive, three meat shops in Morichya Bazar of the upazila were also inspected. During this time, BSTI officials checked the weighing machines of the shops.
During the drive, a shop owner was fined Tk 3,000 under Section 52 of the Consumer Rights Protection Act, 2009, for storing blood in a bottle and using it on meat.
The general public has appreciated the operation of such a mobile court in the public interest. They have called for the mobile court to inspect the raw markets located in various places including Ukhiya Sadar, Kutupalong, Court Bazar, Morichya, Sonarpara, Thaingkhali, Balukhali, Palongkhali.
Officials of the concerned departments participated in this drive led by Assistant Commissioner (Land) Sharmin Sultana. Sources concerned have said that such drives in the public interest will continue in the future.
