‘National seminar held on 3 projects scheduled for completion in fiscal year 2025-26’

Dhaka, May 20, 2026:

Housing and Public Works Minister Zakaria Taher has said that there is no alternative to integrated spatial planning to ensure planned, inclusive and sustainable urban development in this era of rapid urbanization. A safe and livable Bangladesh must be built for future generations through science-based planning by maintaining a balance between development and environment.

He said that the plans for the three projects scheduled for completion prioritize conservation of agricultural land, environmental protection, development of communication systems, expansion of civic amenities, waterlogging, disaster risk reduction and development of local economic potential. As a result, positive changes will be made in building climate-resilient infrastructure, environmental conservation, biodiversity protection and improving the quality of life of the people.

Housing and Public Works Minister Zakaria Taher made these remarks while addressing the “National Seminar on 3 Projects Scheduled for Completion in Fiscal Year 2025-26” organized by the Urban Development Department at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital on Wednesday.

State Minister for Housing and Public Works Ahmed Sohel Manjur and Member of the Physical Infrastructure Division (Senior Secretary) of the Planning Commission Dr. Neyamat Ulya Bhuiyan were present as special guests at the seminar. Additional Secretary of the Housing and Public Works Ministry Mr. Md. Abdul Matin presided over the program.

State Minister for Housing and Public Works Ahmed Sohel Manjur, in his special guest speech, said that spatial planning is very important in building a people-friendly and developed city. Although such plans were made earlier, they were not implemented. The effective implementation of the three projects presented today must be ensured.

Director of the Urban Development Department M. Mahmud Ali, in his welcome speech, highlighted the various activities of the three projects scheduled for completion. In addition, the project directors presented details of the progress, implementation status and future work of the three development projects scheduled for completion in the fiscal year 2025-26 in the seminar. In the open discussion phase, project stakeholders and participants expressed their views on the various information and results obtained from the projects. Officials of the Ministry of Housing and Public Works and its subordinate departments and organizations were present in the seminar.
