Hasan Kabir Siddique Munna,Special Correspondent: The Capital Development Authority (RAJUK) and Gulshan Society have taken a groundbreaking initiative to revamp the environmental conservation and wastewater management system of Dhaka’s upscale residential area, Gulshan. Aimed at raising public awareness among all stakeholders regarding environmental protection and modernization of waste systems in Gulshan, a well-organized Town Hall Meeting was held yesterday, July 23, 2026 (Thursday), at 7:00 PM at the Gulshan Society Lake Park.
Chief Guest’s Address and Directives
The Town Hall Meeting was graced by Engineer Md. Riazul Islam, Honorable Chairman of RAJUK, as the Chief Guest. Senior RAJUK officials, distinguished members, Gulshan Society leaders, and local residents participated spontaneously.
During the meeting, the following key points were strongly emphasized for the overall environmental protection of Gulshan:
· Installation of STPs and Septic Tanks: The Chief Guest stated that to keep Gulshan Lake and all surrounding water bodies pollution-free and clean, it is absolutely essential to install septic tanks, soak wells, and Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) in every building.
· Compliance with Laws and Civic Responsibility: According to RAJUK’s existing laws and regulations, it is mandatory to construct such wastewater treatment infrastructure in every building. Alongside RAJUK’s efforts, building owners must play a responsible and sincere role in protecting the environment.
· Government’s Commitment to Water Body Conservation: He informed that in line with the Honorable Prime Minister’s special directives, RAJUK is working tirelessly to conserve and keep Gulshan Lake and other lakes, canals, and rivers in the capital free from pollution.
Future Plans and Technology Presentation
To disseminate the correct strategies for wastewater management across all levels, the RAJUK Chairman announced a special initiative. Very soon, experienced firms specializing in the installation of septic tanks, soak wells, and STPs will be invited to arrange a separate dedicated presentation session for Gulshan Society residents.
The presentation will cover the following topics in detail:
1. Proper working procedures of eco-friendly modern technologies.
2. Estimated costs and budgets for infrastructure installation.
3. Required space and installation strategies.
4. Long-term proper maintenance methods.
