With encouragement to embark on a journey of transformation, Notre Dame University Bangladesh (NDUB) welcomed its newly admitted students through an orientation program for the Fall Semester 2026 on Sunday (July 19, 2026).
The program, held in two slots, began with the hosting of the national flag and the NDUB flag, accompanied by the singing of the National Anthem. The event also featured prayer, candle lighting, dances, and a video presentation on NDUB.
Prof. Dr. Fr. Patrick D. Gaffney, CSC, Vice Chancellor of NDUB, delivered the opening speech. During his reflections, he encouraged the new students to begin their university journey with self-reflection by asking themselves some fundamental questions, such as, “What are we doing here?” and “What are we looking for?”
Referring to W. B. Yeats’s poem “Among School Children,” he highlighted the inseparable relationship among identity, growth, and experience through the poet’s famous reflections: “Are you the leaf, the blossom or the bole?” and “How can we know the dancer from the dance?” He said the students would acquire new skills and train their minds during their university journey. Encouraging them to actively participate in the journey of transformation, he said, “Join the dance and become a dancer; join the journey of change, and be transformed.”
Prof. Dr. Fr. Charles B. Gordon, CSC, Pro-Vice Chancellor and Treasurer (Acting), said the students had begun an important process of growth and formation at the university. Comparing their journey to the construction of a new building, he said a strong and meaningful life is built step by step, from a solid foundation to a complete structure.
He encouraged the students to use their time at the university to build their knowledge, skills, character, relationships, and vision for the future. He assured them that the university would accompany them as they continued to grow and shape their lives. “So, let us continue to build together,” he said.
The program also included experience sharing by a current student and feelings sharing by a new student. Faculty members were introduced to the freshers by Dr. Br. Subal Rozario, CSC, Registrar, while Fr. Badhon Rozario, CSC, Deputy Exam Controller, introduced the university’s office services.
The respective chairpersons of the Departments of English, Computer Science and Engineering, Law, Business Administration, Microbiology, and Economics delivered welcome speeches to the new students. The program concluded with a vote of thanks by Fr. Charles.
