A human chain has been held in the Danghat Battoli area of Rajarhat, Kurigram, demanding exemplary punishment for those who publicly hacked and killed drug dealer Jahedul Islam Zennat.
On Sunday afternoon, locals including the family of the deceased Zennat formed an hour-long human chain in front of the Kurigram Press Club.
The deceased Jahedul Islam Zennat’s father Abdus Sattar, elder brother Joynal Abedin, son Shakibul and other relatives and neighbors spoke at the human chain.
The speakers demanded immediate arrest of all the accused, including the main accused involved in the Zennat murder, and exemplary punishment.
It is worth mentioning that on the afternoon of July 14, due to a long-standing dispute over roads and land, a fight broke out between drug dealer Jahedul Islam Jennat of Battali Bazar and his neighbor Liakat Sarkar Limon. At one point, when the two sides clashed, the opposing group hacked Jennat to death on the spot. The next day, the deceased’s elder brother Joynal Abedin filed a murder case with Rajarhat Police Station, accusing 28 people. After the incident, the police arrested 13 people, but could not arrest the rest, including the main accused.
