Md Moniruzzaman :

Salma Akhter Preeti held a press conference in Mymensingh demanding justice for her daughter Amena Akhter Naureen’s killer, Lutfullah’s son-in-law Kabir Ashiq.

At a press conference at the Mymensingh Press Club auditorium today, Monday (May 18), she demanded the hanging of Ashiq as the killer. At the time, deceased Naureen’s father Md. Nur Hossain, aunt Nusrat Jahan Shaon and aunt Sohag were present.

She said at the press conference that in 2022, Naureen married Ashiq to Nur Mohammad in Kushtia’s Namapara area. After the marriage, there were occasional normal marital disputes. Later, Ashiq started living in a rented house in Dhaka Uttara due to his job. There, Naureen enrolled in Shanta Mariam University to study. Although everything was normal at first, after a few days, Ashik became suspicious of Naureen’s unusual behavior. Later, Naureen came to know that Ashik was involved in an illegal extramarital affair with a Hindu girl named Urmi, his office colleague.
Later, when he spoke to Urmi and requested her to move away from their family, Ashik did not agree. Even after talking to Ashik’s family about this, they did not take any effective action, but rather indulged their son. Later, Naureen was subjected to physical and mental torture almost every day. Then I brought Naureen to Mymensingh. After two days, Ashik admitted his mistake and assured that he would not behave like this in the future, and took Naureen back to Dhaka.
A week after going to Dhaka, Ashik called on the evening of April 24 and said that Naureen was hanging from the fan. After receiving the news, we quickly went to the scene and found Naureen’s lifeless body lying on the bed in the house. There were injury marks on her body in various places. But no signs of suicide were found at the scene. There were no marks, ropes or signs of a state of confusion on the fan. We firmly believe that an attempt has been made to kill my Naureen in a planned manner and make it look like a suicide. Many people present on the night of the incident, including the investigating police officer, initially commented that it was not a suicide, but a planned murder.
The next day, when we went to file a case at Uttara Turag Police Station, the police initially expressed their unwillingness to take the case. Later, after a request, a case was registered under Section 306. Although Ashiq was arrested on April 24 and sent to jail, he was released on bail within 19 days due to the influence of power. Since then, our family has been threatened in various ways. Currently, we are suffering from insecurity. Therefore, Naureen’s mother Salma Akhter Preeti demanded exemplary punishment of hanging for the culprits, subject to a fair investigation into the tragic death.
