International River Day celebrated in Brahmanbaria to protect rivers and nature

Keeping in mind the strong slogan of “Save the river, save agriculture, save the country”, the River and Nature Protection Social Movement ‘Tori Bangladesh’ celebrated the International River Day in Brahmanbaria on Saturday, March 14, 2026. The day-long river rally was auspicious by performing the national anthem at the Titas River Museum Bazaar Ghat in the municipal area of ​​the district town and releasing the rescued endangered wild birds.

Deputy Commissioner and Convener of the District River Protection Committee Sharmin Akhter Jahan was present as the chief guest on the occasion. In his speech as the chief guest, he said that the current government is determined to protect rivers and nature. As per the strict instructions of the Honorable Prime Minister, no obstacle will be tolerated in protecting the river. The district administration is making every effort to prevent encroachment and pollution of the river and no compromise is being made in this campaign. He called on everyone, regardless of party or opinion, to stand by the administration to protect the river.

Superintendent of Police Shah Md. Abdur Rouf, Deputy Director of Municipal Administrator and Local Government Department Md. Shariful Islam, Additional District Magistrate Tahmina Akhter, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Ranjan Kumar Dey and President of Multiparty Advocacy Forum ABM Mominul Haque spoke as special guests at the event, chaired by Shamim Ahmed, convener of Tori Bangladesh.

In their speeches, the speakers emphasized the administration’s regular initiatives to protect the river, prevent encroachment and pollution. They mentioned that if the river survives, the country will survive, and active participation of not only the administration but also the common people is required to protect the river.

The discussion meeting, which began with a welcome speech by Khaleda Munni, member of the Tori Bangladesh Convening Committee, was moderated by Sohel Rana Bhuiyan. Invited guests and discussions on river protection also included the convener of Tori Bangladesh Sarail branch, Mr. Md. Mahbub Khan, president of the District Business Coordination Committee, Haji Abul Kalam, secretary of the Museum Market Committee, Mr. Shafiqul Islam Shahid, comrade Nazrul Islam and Mr. Jaminur Rahman.

Representatives of various social, cultural and political organizations including Arif Billah Azizi of the United Sadar Brahmanbaria, Tasin Arafat Tanmoy of CSW were present at the rally. In addition, members of the Tori Bangladesh Convening Committee, Khairuzzaman Imran, Hridoy Kamal, Sushanta Pal, Mostafa Delwar, Abdul Hekim, Shafiul Islam Sumon, Monir Hossain and Mozammel Haque, along with local dignitaries and media workers expressed solidarity with the program.
