A human chain and discussion meeting were held in the capital on Saturday to mark World Environment Day and raise public awareness about environmental protection. The program was organized by Greenpeace Bangla in front of the National Press Club.
Among those present were Greenpeace Bangla Secretary General Syed Abul Moazzem Shamim, Dhaka Division President ABM Chowdhury Wazed, General Secretary Md. Yakub Ali, senior journalists Anjon Rahman, Rezaul Karim Reza, Md. Zakir Hossain, Student Front Secretary Sakib, and leaders of various social and environmental organizations.
The theme of the event was, “Plant a Tree Today, Make the Earth Live Longer Tomorrow.”
Speaking at the discussion, the speakers emphasized that social initiatives and public participation are essential to maintaining ecological balance and addressing the adverse impacts of climate change. They stressed the importance of large-scale tree plantation, reducing plastic pollution, and adopting environmentally friendly lifestyles.
The speakers also noted that coordinated efforts by individuals, communities, and the state are necessary to ensure environmental protection. They urged everyone to play an active role in building a sustainable and livable world for future generations.
Representatives of different social and environmental organizations, students, and conscious citizens took part in the program. Participants called for effective measures to protect the environment and highlighted the need for collective action to build a greener Bangladesh.
