Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-13 has recovered a valuable hard stone Vishnu idol weighing about 115 kg during a raid in Haripur upazila of Thakurgaon. Two people were arrested in this incident. It is learned that on Monday (June 29, 2026), based on a secret tip-off, an expedition team of RAB-13’s CPC-2, Nilphamari Camp conducted a raid in Kismat Bhoisha village of Bakua Union No. 3 of Haripur upazila of Thakurgaon district. At that time, a hard stone Vishnu idol was recovered from the barn of Md. Hasan Ahmed’s homestead.
The recovered idol weighs about 115 kg. According to RAB information, the estimated market value of the idol is about 3.5 crore taka. In this incident, Md. of Kismat Bhoisha village Hasan Ahmed (26) of Munshipara village, Nandgaon arrested Md. Nazmul (64). During initial interrogation, they confessed to planning to preserve the stone statue and smuggle it to neighboring countries. .The rescue team, SUA, said that their intelligence surveillance and operation against smuggling of antiquities is continuing to protect antiquities and national heritage. Strict action will be taken in the future to prevent smuggling of historical and archaeological artifacts of the country. A case has been filed against the arrested under Section 25(b) of the Special Powers Act, 1974. The recovered Vishnu idol and the seized evidence have been handed over to the concerned police station for further legal action against the arrested.
