Md. Shahriar Ripon: The list of corruption of the current GM and Executive Director (Technology) of Bangladesh Shipping Corporation Engineer Md. Yusuf is very long. Who is behind the role of the villain of money looting, abusing power and holding the vacant post of BSC for 8 years?
What is the reason for not being appointed to the vacant post in 8 years?
According to the source of the complaint, Engineer Md. Yusuf, Executive Director (Technology), was given the acting responsibility for the vacant post of Executive Director Technology of Bangladesh Shipping Corporation BSC for 8 years.
He misused that opportunity and practiced looting the organization’s money and created a mountain of illegal wealth.
The reason for the unlimited corruption is that the father of that post is also responsible for purchasing parts and machinery parts.
That is why he is constantly embezzling crores of taka by purchasing low-cost parts and parts and setting the highest price for the world’s most expensive parts and machine parts and billing them.
On the other hand, for more than five years, the executive director’s financial path has been empty, as a result of which the managing director of the company is accused of doing whatever he wants without paying attention to the rules and regulations according to his whims. The administrative structure of the company has collapsed, but BSC is standing on an administrative structure.
Although the annual budget for ship repairs is 10 crore taka, it has become 75 crore taka with the gesture of an invisible hand, and the remaining 65 crore taka has been billed by Engineer Mohammad Yusuf Mia, the executive director of technology, whose real secret will come out through proper investigation.
Engineer Mohammad Yusuf is also accused of embezzling crores of taka through the seafaring business. The source says that all the ETO (Junior Electrical Engineer), sailors, firemen, OS, GS, cooks, and other ship officials who were appointed to the company’s fleet through bribery and corruption at a rate of 4/5 lakh taka each, did not have sufficient qualifications and skills in the proper operational activities of the ships in the company’s fleet. As a result, the ships in the seaport were fined a huge amount by the surveyors, along with demerit points, due to which the charterers were not given high prices for ship rentals. It is worth noting that due to the irresponsibility of Engineer Mohammad Yusuf, one of the company’s ships was arrested at sea due to the indifference of the company’s managing director. The company had to pay a fine of about 3 crore taka in Bangladeshi taka to rescue the ship.
The source says that Engineer Md. Yusuf is accused of embezzling crores of taka from the court through promotion business.
On 19/2/2025, a meeting was held for the promotion of the operative employees of the BSC Marine Workshop of the company. Before the meeting was held, Engineer Md. Yusuf became the president of the baseless selection sub-committee in an illegal manner with the aim of accepting bribes.
But instead of the qualified candidates including the skilled graduate diploma engineers working in the marine workshop of the company, he recommended the promotion of unskilled, incompetent, poorly educated operative employees including unskilled eighth grade pass operative employees. Which is against the relevant section and subsection of the Officers and Employees Regulations 1997 of the company and the promotion policy.
There have been allegations of unlimited corruption through irregularities in the ship repair sector and other sectors of the company, including Engineer Md. Yusuf, the source says,,
Engineer Md. Yusuf has created a mountain of illegal wealth by getting ship repair work done through contractors of his choice or purchasing parts for thousands of takas, with the aim of embezzling the company’s money.
And has caused financial losses of crores of takas to BSC. Despite the company’s MT Banglar Jyoti and MT Sourav being unfit for ship repair in the 2023-2024 financial year, he looted the company’s money by showing an expenditure of 5,66,76,927 (five crore sixty-six lakh seventy-six thousand nine hundred and twenty-seven) takas for the repair of the two ships for dishonest purposes.
All irregularities, corruption, abuse of power, embezzlement of the company’s money are happening in front of the eyes of the managing director. But what is the purpose of the director of the company playing the role of a silent spectator?? Then, is he protecting all the people involved in irregularities and corruption without taking action against them, it is clear that he is helping all the miscreants to do their misdeeds to achieve his own interests…??
This scene of looting of Bangladesh Shipping Corporation is visible. We demand from the Honorable Minister, Secretary, Joint Secretary, Anti-Corruption Commission, and Chairman of Bangladesh Shipping Corporation of the Ministry of Shipping of the Government of Bangladesh to come forward to save Bangladesh Shipping Corporation from this looting exercise. And we strongly demand that strict action be taken against the accused GM and Executive Director Engineer Md. Yusuf and his associates through proper investigation, by dismissing them from their jobs, and by attaching all their movable and immovable properties.
