The Roads and Highways (SAWJ) Department has taken quick initiatives to make the road fully usable and sustainable by eliminating the problems encountered in some parts of the Joypurhat-Hili regional highway. Although there was some damage to a certain part of the road due to heavy rain, the prompt repair work has started due to the activities of SAWJ and the responsible role of the contractor.
According to SAWJ sources, the 19-kilometer Joypurhat-Hili road was majorly renovated and carpeted last April. After the completion of this project worth Tk 2.69 crore, some carpeting was damaged in about four kilometers from Panchur intersection to Puranapail due to the recent heavy rain. However, the SAWJ Department quickly supervised the matter and ordered the contractor S. Anant Bikash Tripura Limited to take necessary measures.
The contractor, accepting the one-year commitment, immediately started the work of completely rebuilding the road with new stones and pitch in the damaged parts from last Sunday. They said that the damage was mainly due to heavy rain, but the road is being made more durable than before through quick repairs.
​On the ground, it was seen that the repair work is going on in full swing in the damaged areas. Some local shopkeepers said that although some pitch was removed from the road after the rain, new repair work has now started, which they hope will reduce public suffering. Vehicles are also now moving safely and slowly, avoiding the repair work.
​The workers of the SOW and the contractor’s staff are quickly repairing the damaged parts using heavy machinery and materials.
Some people from the local Parulia area are looking positively at their quick work.
​Joypurhat SOW Executive Engineer Md. Rajs Khan confirmed that although some parts of the road were damaged due to the rain, they have asked the contractor to repair it quickly and it is hoped that after this repair, the road will be much longer lasting and safer.
