Staff Correspondent, Dhaka, (July 12, 2026): Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has expressed deep grief over the death of former Speaker, former Education Minister, member of the National Standing Committee of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), prominent lawyer and veteran politician Barrister Zamir Uddin Sarkar.
In a condolence message today, the minister prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and expressed deep condolences to the bereaved family members.In a condolence message today, the minister said, Barrister Zamir Uddin Sarkar was a renowned lawyer, skilled parliamentarian and brilliant political figure of the country. He fought uncompromisingly for the establishment of democracy, human rights and the rule of law till his death. His long political life was a unique example of principles, ideals, honesty and patriotism. The nation will remember Barrister Zamir Uddin Sarkar’s contribution in state governance, law making, education and strengthening democratic institutions with deep respect.It is noteworthy that Barrister Zamir Uddin Sarkar breathed his last (Inna Lillahi wa Inna Ilaihi Rajiun) at approximately 4:19 am today while undergoing treatment at Bangladesh Specialized Hospital in Shyamoli, the capital. He was 95 years old at the time of his death.
