Endangered Slow Loris Released in Kaptai National Park

The Forest Department has released an endangered Slow Loris in the Kaptai National Park area of ​​Rangamati. On Wednesday (May 6), at around 8:30 pm, forest workers of the Karnaphuli Range of the Chittagong Hill Tracts South Forest Division released the monkey into its natural habitat. Deputy Ranger of the Karnaphuli Range Abu Naeem, forest workers Mithu Talukder and Osman Gani were present at the time. Earlier on the same day, at around 12 noon, on the instructions of Divisional Forest Officer of the Chittagong Hill Tracts South Forest Division S. M. Sajjad Hossain, Barkal Range Officer Omar Faruk Swadhin rescued the monkey from the locality of Garjantoli Mouza No. 151 of Barkal Upazila of Rangamati. Later, considering the animal’s natural habitat, it was transferred to the Karnaphuli Range for release. When contacted around 9 pm, Barkal Range Officer Omar Faruk Swadhin said that the rescued shy monkey is classified as Endangered according to the Red List of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). He also mentioned that this species of monkey is occasionally seen in Kaptai National Park. The Forest Department said that rescuing wildlife from localities and releasing it in suitable habitats plays an important role in preserving biodiversity.
