A farewell reception and reception was held for outgoing Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Pranay Verma and his wife Manu Verma in honour of media professionals. The reception was organised at ‘India House’ in Dhaka on Saturday (May 16, 2026). The High Commissioner and his wife spent a hearty time with the invited guests through conversations, reminiscences and melodious music.
In an emotional speech at the reception, outgoing High Commissioner Pranay Verma said, “Bangladesh will remain one of my favourite places to work. The warmth, sincerity and friendship I have received from the people here during my tenure here is unparalleled.”
He further added that the time spent here will be one of the best and cherished memories of their lives due to the unique love and friendship of the people of Bangladesh. Expressing his emotions at this moment of farewell, he said, “Don’t say goodbye, but say ‘see you again’.” He said that they are taking these wonderful and beautiful memories spent in Dhaka with them to Brussels.
It is worth noting that Prannoy Verma assumed charge as the Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka on September 21, 2022. After serving very successfully in Bangladesh, he was recently appointed as the next Indian Ambassador to Belgium and the European Union (EU). He is scheduled to leave Dhaka in the last week of this May. Before assuming charge in Bangladesh, he served as the Indian Ambassador to Vietnam.
Meanwhile, the Indian government has appointed Dinesh Trivedi as the next Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh. He is scheduled to arrive in Dhaka to assume his new duties in mid-June.
