In the context of the ongoing student movement at the Royal University of Dhaka, Professor Dr. Abu Bakar Siddiki Dipu has been accused of various irregularities, abuse of power and intimidation of students. A section of students and alumni have alleged that he is serving as the Dean of the Faculty of Arts without the formal approval of the Board of Trustees and Syndicate.
The complainants also said that there are questions about his academic credentials and appointment process. They claim that he completed his honors and master’s degrees from Darul Ihsan University—a university whose activities have faced controversy and legal complications in the past. Due to this, questions have been raised about his qualifications and the transparency of his appointment.
According to the students, attempts were made to suppress the long-running movement demanding convocation, administrative reforms and the realization of students’ rights by calling the agitators a “mob”. Some students alleged that there were also incidents of personal phone calls, sending messages and unwanted contact, especially with female students.
Meanwhile, on 11 May 2026, a written complaint was submitted to the Tejgaon Industrial Area Police Station by the Alumni Association of the university. The complaint mentioned the death threats, physical attacks and obstruction of organizational activities by members associated with the movement.
In addition, the complainants claimed that Professor Dipu tried to exert influence by pretending to be the chairman of the “Bangabandhu Commission” in the past. The concerned parties have also demanded verification of specific information in this regard.
Students and alumni have demanded an impartial investigation into the complaints and necessary administrative action. An official statement from the university administration has not been received yet.
